Katharina CafourekI grew up without any pets, but it was always clear that I would get a dog one day – and it had to be a Rhodesian Ridgeback!
Sometime in 2012, I looked into the Rhodesian Ridgeback in more detail and joined the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Switzerland (RRCS). Since 2013, I have regularly helped out at shows, initially only at RRCS club shows, but soon afterwards at SKG shows as well.
In 2014, the time had come and I had a job as a computer scientist where I was allowed to bring a dog to work. However, as I didn’t want a puppy at the time, I took in «Lilo», a 10-month-old female Pitbull.
Sadly, Lilo was diagnosed with lymph node cancer in January 2020, and I had to let her go at the beginning of May 2020.
She was just under 7 years old at the time. Even though it had always been clear that a rescue dog would move in afterwards, it all happened much sooner than I’d expected.
As my breeder was «only» planning a litter for summer 2021, I wanted to enjoy a dog-free year. I managed to stick to that for just under a month...
So since summer 2020, «Terence», my Amstaff foster dog from Bullstaff-Hilfe, has been living with me. Unfortunately, he hasn’t found a new home yet.
Finally, in the summer of 2022, my long-awaited RR arrived, and since September 2022, my bitch «Tia» (Shumbazino Hatia Feleena) has been keeping me company.
Even before I had my own RR, I was elected to the RRCS board as secretary in 2016, and in 2018 I took over the show organisation.
It quickly became clear to me that I was very interested in the show scene and also in judging. So, in spring 2019, I took and passed the preliminary judging exam for the Rhodesian Ridgeback.
At the start of 2022, I took the final exam and passed that too! I made my judging debut at the 2022 show in Geneva. I judged for the second time at the 2024 show in Aarau and have been an international judge ever since.
Since autumn 2025, I have also been a specialist judge for Dalmatians.
